“THE PURPOSE OF A BROKEN HEART”

You are hurting.  Somewhere, there is pain.  No one else  may know it, but you do.  It may have come this morning; it may have happened 30 years ago.  But it is there.  I have never known anyone who didn’t have wounds, who hadn’t been hurt by someone’s words or actions, or maybe just circumstance.

When we are wounded, we absorb pain into every area

of our bodies.  Our minds reel with deprecating thoughts.

Our digestive tracts refuse to do their jobs.  Aches and pains come from nowhere and steal our peace.  We have    trouble breathing.

Surgeons don’t completely stitch up  wounds that are    still   festering.  They always put a drainage tube in to allow the infection to drain out.  Sometimes they don’t        even stitch wounds closed at all if they need to heal from the inside out.

Jesus has come to heal the brokenhearted.

Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

He can’t heal the heart until the pain has drained out.  Thus, the heart  needs to be broken so that hurt doesn’t stay locked away inside.

What is the process that empties our hearts of debilitating emotional infection?  The balm is the

Word of God.  Applying it is the process.  That salve that soothes, the cleansing lotion that clarifies, the well water that washes away guilt, all speed up the healing process.

We have to be careful that pride doesn’t keep us from allowing our hearts to break.  We can’t pretend nothing is wrong.  We can’t build walls around our emotions to keep out pain; they will keep joy out as well.  We have to come to God, broken and humble; He can only use broken vessels.

How do we get the pain out of our hearts?  The Word of

God is our medicine.  By soaking in God’s love, revealed in

the words He has  spoken over us, or some instances sung

over us, our minds will be renewed, our focus becomes clearer, and the pain slowly begins to subside.

When you are in a place emotionally that you think your heart is breaking into, just remember, at the right time, it will serve its purpose.

You will not be able to survive with all that pain locked inside your body.  The result would be a life-threatening disease like cancer, heart attacks, strokes, crippling arthritis or any other unnamed malady. When the circumstances in your life  are too much for your mind, then your body will take over.

Therefore, when in pain, soak in the following:

Matthew 11:28-30 TNIV “Come to me all you who are weary  and burdened, and I will give you rest.Take My yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
